South Kivu: A territory like Belgium without functional peace court

The access of women to justice remains glaring problem in Shabunda. Customary courts handle different issues linked to breaches in the villages. Customs and local institutions are not  protect women. Like result, women do not know who to turn to claim their rights. This area has recently benefited from the construction of a police court, built in Shabunda center. (more…)


12800 girls pass State exams, 2013 edition in South Kivu

The number of candidates for state exams in South Kivu is 36,000 students. They are grouped in 96 test centers, including 12,800 girls and 23,200 boys. These centers were used for essay tests. According to the Provincial Inspector Principal Annette Shaburwa according to the school calendar, the launch date of the tests was observed. (more…)


17 of 21 Congolese students arrested in India released

Seventeen of the twenty-one Congolese students arrested in India were released in the evening of Wednesday, June 19, said the same day the Ambassador of India to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ram Manohar. Shortly before the announcement, his DRC counterpart announced that they “will be released on bail tomorrow [Thursday], pending legal proceedings to classify this case.” (more…)


The Congolese National Police (PNC) announced Tuesday, June 11 in Kinshasa have seized and taken off the market 30 tons of inedible pharmaceuticals

Goma: wave of arrests of civilians accused of collaborating with the M23

For more than two weeks, several people are routinely arrested in Goma (North Kivu) and sent to Kinshasa. They are accused by the security services to work with the rebellion of the M23, said on Wednesday, 12 June, local sources. But for the families of victims, it is simply arbitrary arrests. (more…)

“Nearly half the workforce to enter into the composition of [the intervention brigade] are already deployed in Goma with the means thereto,” said military spokesman MONUSCO, Lieutenant Colonel Felix Basse, this Wednesday, June 12 in Kinshasa.
